Evil within us- Children story

March 20, 2018 By Ayesha Marfani-Muslim Author 1 Comment

Peek inside the Treacherous Land

‘The Scavengers’ all danced out in rage. That day they had a meeting in the land named as ‘Treacherous Land’. Treacherous Land is the darkest and dampest place that exists in this world. It is covered with spiny thorns and bushes that seem deadly. The thick, mist covers the sky permanently and rain never falls in there. The feeling of gloom invades the land and enters into every soul that steps into it. The scariest creatures live in there who had adequately named themselves as ‘The Scavengers’.

The meeting started when the leader of the Treacherous Land walked into the room towards its burning throne and spoke with a voice that seemed to crack the skull, “I am the leader and proud to be the ugliest one with an eye above the head and two black horns. My gaze makes you shudder. I emit the scorches and flares. I kill humility, empathy, sacrifice,…”

Before the leader could complete his speech, the creature on the left-hand side interrupted. He sat close to the leader making him noticeable.

In the Treacherous Land, no one let the others complete what they want to say; not even the leader is lucky enough to get this chance.

“I am made of fire. I love when my eyes, nose, and lips all emit fire. Today I took my selfie and it was lovely. This time, I will post my selfie for the world to see…”

On the right of the leader was a creature with scald marks on his body and he started in between by complaining as always, “Pity for me as the smoke emits from every hole in my body and I can’t get my selfie right. I am thin, thinnest of any creature in this land.

He also sat close to the leader which made him feel special.

Gathered around the leader were more ugly faces. The creature with weapons of most horrible type attached to each and every apparent body part such as saws, nails, guns, knives, and the bow was the commander-in-chief who said, “Oh you silly stop complaining, we are on the verge of getting devastated.”

The cartoon face with greed and selfishness emanating from his eyes said, “It runs a shiver down the spine.”

The creature with the thorny body and rusted needle-like thorns protected the group. He was the filthiest of them all and spoke with best manners but the underlying meaning of the speech was cruel. He said, “I can destroy love and relationships very easily so I ask you all to act so…”

And someone interrupted again. The discussion got intense and then the ritual started, ‘The ritual of dance. ‘They danced for hours and hours like mad tripping each other and shouting like maniacs.

All these creatures of the Treacherous Land were frightening but their names were even more terrifying than their physical appearance

The leader was called Pride. The creature on the left-hand side was Jealousy and on the right-hand side was Anger. The creature with too many weapons was named as Lie. The cute faced with greedy eyes was called Deceitful by his fellows. The one with the thorny body was called Backbiter.

The mission of these creatures was even more terrifying than their names. It was to wipe the good and spread the evil.

Left Out – Flash Fiction

October 2, 2017 By Ayesha Marfani-Muslim Author 12 Comments

Umar’s cousins and siblings said, “You must be a student, you cannot be a teacher, and if you want to be a teacher, then we will not let you play with us.”

Umar wanted to play, but this time he was not willing to be a follower. He always wished to play the role of his choice but he was forced into playing the role that others have decided for him.

‘It’s not fair,’ he thought and then walked away. He was a left out.

This happened to him very often. He had a lot of cousins that were a year or two elder or smaller than him. They asked him to play games against his will.

That day he wanted to play ‘side-side,’ but he was asked to play ‘house-house.’ His cousins’ threatened him that he would be kicked out from the group if he complained.

It also happened to him in the school. He was not very good at throw ball, so the team treated him as an extra. When the whole team was present, he was left out.

He loved accompanying his mother to shopping and parties. However, his siblings would buy him into letting them go. He felt ‘left out’ on many occasions in his life.

People came to him to get his journals and assignments. They knew he had the best ideas, but whenever it was a field trip then people would partner with others, and he was left out.

He played with his apartment friends. He was last to be selected by the captains. If the number of the players were odd, he was left out.

When people would discuss something of importance, they wouldn’t trust him into the hearing, so he was a left out.

He was left out so many times that he ceased longing to belong to anyone. He searched for places where he didn’t feel left out.

One day, Umar’s younger sibling cried, so he weaved a whimsical tale, and his little brother enjoyed the story. Not only the boy, he saw the elders beaming and commenting on the story. He enjoyed the experience.

He started weaving tales; he would project his wishes and dreams in his characters. In his stories, he was never left out. He loved the experience.

Soon the world knew his skills as a storyteller, and they would beg him to tell his tales. His stories were interesting.

When you interview him about advice, he says, “If you feel left out then search places where you belong. Soon you will never feel left out.”

And then a clock with legs walked in.

Everyone was amazed and abashed, and in their hearts, they knew what ‘it’ is going to say. It first showed its collected evidence and then said, “You are always complaining

  • How fast I am
  • How I never wait for anyone
  • How because of me you are unable to complete life important task
  • How I never give a second chance to anyone in any regard

“Ahmad is the boy who valued me and is successful in achieving life’s greatest tasks, and now I would now like you to hear Ahmad’s secret.”

Ahmad spoke, “I can write scientific articles and get them published. I take care of my cancer suffering mother. I manage all my house chores. I take care of my little brother. I am developing my laboratory. I take online courses on the scientific topic. I am studying in school. I am managing social get together. I am available to my family and friends all together. You might question as to how I could, so the answer to this question lies in this short poem for you.”

Then he read the following poem.

Early in morning I awake

The long task list awaits

Not a second I waste

Routine is what I embrace

Urge to lie, I never taste

My success is well paced

Prayer time is all I chase

Time is what I never disgrace

Wasting time to me is a mace

The curtain falls, and the last words of both of them echoed in the hall

‘It’s the time that should complain not us.’

Reading this, many heads might feel embarrassed, but it is never too late to value ‘It’.

By making a vow to yourself to do the following, you can achieve wonders within a short time:

  • Value each second.
  • Sleep early
  • Wake up early
  • Shake off all the urges to lie down.
  • Make a routine
  • Make something valuable your

Untitled Story _ Part II

Now ‘It’ hurried to the class where the students were asking the teacher to extend the time for the submission of their project. They pleaded, “Teacher, time is too short to complete this documentary; please extend our time.” ‘It’ appeared again amazing everyone and showed the evidence in which the same kids killed their study time in useless things.”

‘It’ ran here and there and saw some students complaining about their inability to complete the work due to a shortage of time. ‘It’ used different pieces of evidence in which ‘it’ showed how they waste their time in

  • Laptops,
  • WhatsApp,
  • Facebook,
  • Bullying,
  • Gossiping,
  • Exchanging unimportant referrals,
  • Peeping and being conscious about others’ life,
  • Laziness

‘It’ felt sweaty, it was so tired there were so many complain that it felt hopeless.‘It’ was sullen and sulky and half dead, when it saw a boy who was well groomed. ‘It’ knew by the appearance and expression on his face that he is the one that values time. ‘It’ looked with high hopes towards him and approached him for help.

Together they chalked out a great plan. They made fliers and distributed them.

****

There were fliers everywhere in the town showing the emergence of a creepy creature with three hands and two wooden legs, ever moving, not stopping. The fliers announced that the creepy creature would hold seminar together with Ahmad- a boy who valued ‘IT’. People felt conscious to know about the creepy creature and Ahmad who valued it.

The day of the seminar arrived, and all the town seemed to have erupted out of their curiosity to see the creepy creature that was the hot talk of the town.

Finally, Ahmad appeared and stood confidently behind the rostrum. Ahmad started, “I am a boy who was among those who complained about time couple of years ago, yet one day the desire to become a scientist made me reflect on my life and routine. I realized with this lifestyle, I may never achieve my passion, so I started to value the creepy creature, and from that day I can complete and meet all my plans.”

You might have a question of how I valued the creepy creature. I will share this secret but will for now allow the creepy creature to show you how you are devaluing its importance.

Untitled Story- Part I

‘‘It’’ was roaming with anger, ‘It’ couldn’t tolerate more and wanted to explode at that moment. The frustration was bubbling inside ‘It’. ‘It’ was something significant which never stopped. ‘It’ lived in each room of every house and had three hands and remained busy in moving.

‘It’ was angry because people all around the world charged him with the offence he never committed. ‘It’ was tolerant, but now, when the innocent children and students have victimised ‘It’ making the rage unbearable, it couldn’t bear more pain. ‘It’ wanted to take action; ‘It’ thought on ways to act and got an idea and then felt a bit relaxed and waited to bring his plan to action.

‘It’ very secretly invaded the school building and captured some evidence. ‘It’ accompanied the kids on their way home and to the playground and remained with them till the night to collect some other evidence.

After that ‘It’ waited for the right time. It made for himself two wooden legs and practised to walk. The next day “It” entered the school building again. There was a group of late comers with bowed head. The teacher was angry and inquired of the students for their reason for coming late.

The group of students replied, “Time ran away so quickly, we were trying to catch it.”

The response from the group induced “It” to intervene, and ‘it’ appeared from behind the wall saying angrily, “Let me show your daily rituals to you.”

He showed the captured evidence of students sleeping late, busy in using the internet, smart phone and chatting inside their blankets.

“It” argued, “Why does the world blame me? I am innocent.”

Everyone felt shocked on witnessing a strange walking creature with three hands and all those that were blaming the time felt embarrassed.
